Adult Refugee Programme
CO. MAYO VEC ADULT REFUGEE PROGRAMME

  • In 2006 the Orientation Centre was opened in Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo.
  • County Mayo VEC began working with teenage programmed refugees in 2006 during their initial 8 week induction programme
  • In 2008 two Burmese groups were resettled in County Mayo, in Ballina and Castlebar. County Mayo VEC provide a language and socialisation programme for these adult groups through the Adult Refugee Programme.
  • In 2009, through the Adult Refugee Programme, the VEC commenced working with adult programmed refugees,during their initial induction programme.
  • From the outset County Mayo VEC has worked on creating an integrated programme based on Department of Integration guidelines.
  • The Adult Refugee Programme is the result of extensive study, based on feedback from previous programmes and research into the practices and methods which best suit the needs of programme participants.
