Quality Assurance (Q.A.)
Quality Assurance is the demonstrated consistent repetition of good performance using a system of documented procedures, which are known, understood and operated by all. In order for recognition as an approved provider of FETAC accredited awards, County Mayo Vocational Educational Committee (VEC) devised and implemented a comprehensive Quality Assurance process.Co Mayo VEC’s Quality Assurance system demonstrates our capacity to monitor, evaluate and improve the quality of programmes and services to learners. Quality Assurance’ (Q.A.) is a dynamic system of best practice that ensures consistent quality education, this means the best teaching and learning atmosphere for students and for teachers in County Mayo VEC. Under the ‘Education Act 1999’ all education and training providers have to comply with a quality framework established by the relevant education and training authority. Certificates and Records of Achievement attained at levels 1 to 6 on the National Qualification Framework, www.nqai.ie in adult Education and PLC centres in County Mayo are awarded by the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC). www.fetac.ie  FETAC require that all providers of further education and training at levels 1 -6 leading to FETAC Awards establish procedures to Quality Assure their programmes and these procedures have to be agreed with FETAC. FETAC monitors and reviews the effectiveness of each provider’s quality assurance system as well as each provider’s agreement. To ensure that each of our quality assurance is working efficiently and effectively Co Mayo, as part of its Quality Assurance Agreement with FETAC put in place a set of policies and procedures that monitors our QA system in practice. Co Mayo VEC also have a range of forms for both teacher/tutors and learners to complete to ensure that the quality assurance system is working effectively. Castlebar College of Further Education were the first centre in County Mayo to achieve FETAC’s Quality Agreement and the first Provider in the country to complete the self evaluation for which they obtained national recognition from FETAC.
